About Me

Supporting you with tools and resources to Empower Yourself!

Hi, I’m Catherine, an Empowerment Coach and a Mindfulness Trainer for Adults and in Education.

Do you feel that you are on the merry go round of life, going round in circles, up and down, sometimes yes its exhilarating but once you come out of the merry go round, you feel dizzy, out of balance, lost / confused?

I can help you to get out of the merry go round of life, that leaves so many of us stressed out, unfulfilled, and out of balance, with mindfulness and coaching, by supporting you with practical tools and resources that help you become empowered to create a self care routine, create a vision, set goals, and take action to change your lifestyle!

I strongly believe that we all deserve to live a fulfilled, happy, peaceful life. I also believe that we all have our own purpose and mission in life. My perspective is once we start moving towards our purpose and mission (whatever that maybe) we can feel more fulfilled, happy and peaceful.
Unfortunately, many times due to our belief systems, negative thoughts and programmes we have built, negative environments and relationships, and due to the frantic life we lead, we move away from our purpose, we disempower ourselves and lead a life that throws out of our own personal balance and power. Fortunately, if we change certain aspects of our life, become self aware and get to know ourselves better, connect to our own inner resources, our own talents, free ourselves from negative patterns / beliefs that are holding us back, we can live with purpose and become more fulfilled, happy and peaceful.

I would love to help you or anyone close to your heart live a happy, calm, peaceful, fulfilled life!

I am an ICF Accredited Coach, a Master NLP Practitioner, an Accredited Mindfulness Practitioner, Accredited EFT Practitioner and Trainer of Mindfulness. I also hold a Diploma in Training and Development (Uni. Of Leicester).

I have worked with adults, youth and children. I have also delivered soft skills / personal development training workshops locally and internationally.

My own journey

My journey of purposeful and fulfilled living has empowered and transformed me. I have started my working life as an Insurance trainee and worked my way up as a successful Executive in the sector. Though I did very well, and had a corporate experience of nearly 20 years I was not fulfilled and I had a feeling of discontent within me. I was always curious to learn more, so when I have joined Junior Chamber International (JCI), I was fascinated by the trainers and the development opportunities that arose. I became a JCI Trainer and then completed a Diploma in Training and Development with University of Leicester. I was fascinated with people, how we learn, we behave, we communicate.

I became more curious and wanted to free myself from this feeling of discontent and something missing. So, around 10 years ago, I embarked on a journey of self discovery.

Although recovered from an eating disorder I still had negative bodily image and low self esteem, childhood negative programmes and was also going through failing marriage. I took up various studies and professional qualifications, worked on myself with EFT, NLP and other therapies. I travelled the world, lived in London, and explored various cultures. I was particularly interested in the spiritual dimensions of these cultures, from Buddhism in Thailand and Japan, to shamanism in Peru, and to a spiritual walk in Santiago, Spain. All these experiences together with the practice of meditation and yoga freed me!

In recent years, whilst living in Malta with my partner, young daughter and our westie dog, I started focusing more on mindfulness. Mindfulness has continued to empower me and transform my life.
I feel more centred, peaceful, more assertive, focused and self disciplined. I do believe that mindfulness can make that difference in our daily life which is sometimes so frantic and busy! I know how that feels!

As an explorer of life, I hope that I continue to learn and expand my knowledge and continue to share with you all through coaching, training, speaking and writing! In my free time, I enjoy walking in nature, swimming, reading, dancing and of course travelling!

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is learning to be in the moment, of being in a state of active and open attention to the present, rather than worrying about the future or the past. Learning to focus on feelings rather than pushing them away.

“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” (Jon Kabat Zinn)

Evidence suggests that regular mindful awareness practice changes how our body and brain respond to stress, reducing reactivity, supporting self-reflection and self-regulation. These functions also play a critical role in our overall health and wellbeing.

Mindful awareness can also be practiced during activities of daily life. In fact, during the 6 week programme, we learn how to practice mindfulness in our daily activities.

Mindfulness is evidence based and recommended by Doctors in the NHS. It’s also used in the military, politicians, schools, banks, athletes, major corporations such as Google, Apple, Aetna, Bank of England. Cancer Research UK recommends mindfulness as a complementary therapy to help cancer patients cope with pain, insomnia and nausea.
Whilst mindfulness has its origins in ancient meditation practices, modern day Mindfulness was founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn who founded the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in the late 1970’s. His programme helped many with conditions as diverse as chronic pain, heart disease, anxiety, psoriosis, sleep problems and depression.

It has been clinically proven to help with anxiety, depression, insomnia, stress, excessive worrying, learning, pain, negative emotions and more.

Benefits of Mindfulness

• Builds resilience

• Release yourself from old negative habits if you choose so
• Enhances creativity (encourages divergent thinking)

• Improves focus and concentration on the task in hand
• Improves decision making abilities

Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a simple and increasingly popular therapy which can be self-applied to treat a wide range of physical, psychological and emotional issues. EFT is gaining popularity because of its rapid, long term results and no known side effects.

EFT involves locating and tapping on meridian points on the surface of the body while thinking of a negative emotion to alter the body’s energy flow. Often within minutes, the result is the body’s energy system is back in balance and irrational thought processes are replaced with logical understanding of the problem. The simplicity of EFT and the fact that it can be self applied makes it appealing to everyone, including children.

It is well known that emotional wellbeing can have a major impact on physical health. Scientists and doctors have recognised this ‘mind-body connection’ for many years and as public awareness grows, demand for EFT is growing as it is rapidly gaining serious credibility as a powerful therapeutic tool.

EFT can be used to reduce a wide range of negative issues, such as

  • reducing stress
  • understanding and improving emotional health
  • overcoming fears and phobias
  • relieving pain and beating addictions
  • controlling eating habits and weight loss – even simple things such as getting a good night’s sleep!

The list of benefits for EFT really is endless. To fully appreciate EFT, it is best to experience it for yourself.

Coaching

Coaching is partnering with Clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and / or professional potential.

As a Coach I help my Clients to get clear on what they want in the future, why they want it, and how they are going to achieve it. The coaching process involves:

  • Questioning, listening to you and from what comes out helping you to gain a clear perspective
  • Challenging you to get out of your comfort zone
  • Exploring different areas of your life, different possibilities and options
  • Understanding where you are know, how satisfied / fulfilled, and Creating a vision of where you want to be
  • Crossing the bridge between where you are and where you want to be through setting goals and formulating an action plan
  • Supporting you with practical tools and resources (eg. NLP, EFT and mindfulness) that help you overcome fears, limiting beliefs, negative patterns whilst crossing the bridge
  • Becoming more self aware, self understanding and self accepting during the journey (be kinder and less judgemental)

Coaching is not “counselling” or “therapy” or “advice-giving”. Coaching is an empowering tool for the Client and as part of this empowerment process, the Client is fully responsible for the decisions and action taken regarding own personal and professional life and wellbeing.

Why do you need a Coach?

A coach:

  • Provides a safe and secure, non judgemental space where you can share your deepest fears, concerns, and issues

How do I work?

Individual sessions

I offer one to one coaching and EFT sessions.
The sessions are usually one hour long. Though you can just take one session, I do usually recommend 3 sessions for EFT (spread over 3 months) and 6 sessions for coaching (3 – 6 months).
Before working with me, I offer a free discovery session of 30 minutes whereby I get to know what is the reason you need my services and I explain how it works.

Group courses / workshops

I deliver a 6 week mindfulness programme. You can find details on the website or else on my Facebook or do get in touch personally.
Before the first week you will be sent some pre course material as an introduction to mindfulness. The course is interactive, it contains theory and rationale of mindfulness, short video clips, guided practices and discussions. Following the course there is optional post course review where it is possible to deepen your experience and also further training options including becoming an Accredited Mindfulness Practitioner with the EFT and Mindfulness Centre.

From time to time I also offer 2 hour Mindfulness taster workshops.

Mindfulness at the Workplace

I also help organisations who want to improve employee performance, work relationships, and have fulfilled employees with a mindfulness programme; by teaching employees various mindfulness practices and helping them to recognise unhelpful habitual routines and responses that impair their performance and behaviour at the workplace.

I can deliver the 6 week programme and also one off workshops (2 – 4 hour). For more information please visit website or contact me personally.

Mindfulness in Education

I also deliver a 6 week programme for children in schools. There are two programmes;

  • 5-11 years
  • 12-17 years

The programme is delivered via powerpoint (child friendly and lively) with interactive practical exercises. Children will also be given a workbook whereby they can record their home practice and other mindful activities.

The Mental Health Foundation has stated that

“Mindfulness practice in schools enables children to recognise and overcome the many ways in which we tend to get caught up in rumination,
distraction and resistance.
They reveal the inherent ability of the mind and body to rebalance and sustain wellbeing and help us discover positive new perspectives, behaviours and solutions”
(Mental Health Foundation, 2011)

There is more and more evidence in this area of mindfulness. Some benefits:

• Reduce stress and calm children down
• Understand and manage emotions
• Improved memory
• Enhanced performance
• Self awareness / monitoring
• Learn to empathise
• Establish and maintain relationships
• Reduces behaviour problems in the classroom and aggression
• Improves impulse control
• Paying more attention in the classroom
• Encourages students to fulfil their potential
• Improvement in overall wellbeing
